From the President

Greetings From North Jersey!

On behalf of the 72 dynamic mothers of the North Jersey Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., it is my pleasure to welcome you to our website.  We are delighted that you want to learn more about Jack and Jill of America Inc. and our North Jersey Chapter.

North Jersey has a proud history of reflecting our national mission through youth leadership development, dedicated and consistent service to our community and engaged volunteerism.

For 68 years, our talented and creative mothers have worked together to create social, cultural and educational activities and programs that promote a deeper understanding of our African American heritage, develop leadership skills and mutual respect, and contribute to the growth and prosperity of our community for our children, and all children.

We are endearingly known as the “Mighty North Jersey" because mighty are the works of our hearts and hands.  There isn’t anything we can’t do together and, Mighty is our dedication to our chapter and our goal of excellence in all we do.

We have been humbled to win the National Legislative Award in 2013 for our chapter-wide and age-specific program called How to Become the President of the United States.  Inspired by the ground-breaking campaign to re-elect the first African American President, Barack Obama, the fun and interactive program provided a practical and educational roadmap of the actual path and complete legislative process to become the president of our United States.

In 2015 our chapter was awarded the Eastern Region Community Service Award for our work to eliminate food insecurity with our collections and donations of food, supporting literacy programs with the collection and dissemination of books, feeding families in need and providing toiletries and warm coats at homeless shelters and with community partners.   And finally, for flexing our legislative muscles by writing letters to our legislative representatives regarding issues of critical importance to our communities, namely NJ SNAP (New Jersey Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program).

This year, our North Jersey chapter theme is Black Excellence.  Our monthly programming will focus on Black Excellence in many areas including Science, Technology and Math, The Arts, Literature, Sports and Government. This is going to be an amazing year for our children and our community!

Thank you for your interest in Jack and Jill of America, Inc. and the Mighty North Jersey Chapter.

Warmest regards,

Margaret J. Cunningham
